I met Doug when we were both driving a truck for PST. We drove a truck for more years then I can remember. When Doug retired from trucking and started writing he asked me if he could include me in each of his books. He said he could not pay me but would send me a copy of each of his books. Now I think I have six or seven of his books. Each year around Christmas we would talk on the phone. When Doug passed away I lost a true friend. Rest in peace buddy.

Wr also met Doug camping in Old Forge many years and campers ago. We always stayed in site 204 and I think Doug was always 217. He had to be close enough to the store to get wifi for his emails! We have been thinking about him a lot lately and my email went unanswered from a few days ago. Today I went in our basement and the magical rock that Doug had planted in front of his site was sitting on a table. A strange sign I thought. My daughter, Jenna found that rock and won herself one of Doug's first books many years ago! We've been friends ever since. We heard many stories while drinking wine coolers by the campfire. Unfortunately, j found his obituary today. You will surely be missed my friend. Thanks for all the memories. Old Forge will never be the same.

To all the people who knew and loved this wonderful man, the world has lost a great friend and author. I am already missing the stories he did not get to tell me or write down. Sitting at the camp, either at the table or in his camper listening to him will continue to be a fond memory. He will be thought of often.

I met Doug at the Old Forge camping resort in the Adirondacks a few years ago & saw him there each summer after that. My daughter made his day when she told him his books are in her school library, Greene, NY. He seemed surprised kids were reading his wonderful stories. We had the pleasure of seeing him there for his birthday last year. Sitting and talking-He is an amazing person. I love his straight forward take on life.I was so looking forward to seeing him this year........Yes, Doug, I cried-you old goat. You are missed.
