Dear Kenny and Family
Please accept our condolences for Pete’s passing. He was the oldest cousin on the Perkin side, after my brother Gord’s passing in 2016. He would say he wasn’t giving up his status in any hurry as he dealt with his medical issues.
We had good times at Christmas and during the summer when the Sommers came up to Canada. Lots of fun and laughter. A lively mix of Perkins, Deacons and Sommers.
Recently, via email, he would update me on the latest additions to the Sommer clan. He was very proud of all of you.
I am sure you will miss Grandpa.
If any of you manage to get up to Canada, do drop by , eh?
Quite a few of us live in Southern Ontario, but some of us are out in Manitoba.
Marilyn (Deacon) Souter, Pete’s cousin

Dear Sommer family,
When I saw Peter's obituary the memories from years ago all came back. I was fortunate to share many wonderful times with fellow horse lovers Kenny and Kara. We had a great group from the Fox Run stable that got together for shows and parties... in the barns, at bonfires, at the "Hunt Races", and at the Sommer's house, all decked out for Christmas! Peter was always in on the laughter and fun, a guy with a generous spirit and a big laugh! Sending love and condolences from the Hensen family; Dave, Mary Lynn, Corey and Bryan. God Bless you all, and rest in peace, Peter.

I am deeply saddened at the news of Pete's passing. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends. Pete has been the patent lawyer for our firm for nearly 2 decades, and after his retirement, he choose to keep us as one of the handful of clients he would continue to handle. We worked on dozens of applications together, and developed a great friendship over the years. I loved his flair for describing my inventions, placing phrases like "intertwined like tango dancers" and "as durable as a military deuce-and-a-half" into what could otherwise be described as the dry technical jargon of a patent application. He usually timed his trips out to Rochester so we could grab lunch together afterwards, where we would leave the shop talk aside. His fondness for "Sticky Lips BBQ" was surpassed only by his love of his family. You could tell he loved his wife dearly, and was always looking for some new t-shirt or such for her at every new restaurant we stopped in. His kids and grandkids were always on his mind, as he would share stories of their weekend plans and recent adventures. 30 years my senior, his advice was sage wisdom to which I usually followed to my great benefit, and occasionally dismissed to my later regret.
I will miss him.

I worked for Peter as a young lawyer at his intellectual property law firm. He was an excellent mentor and a professional. I learned a ton from him and he was always willing to share his time and expertise to help me develop. He often talked about his father and how proud he was of his father's own legal practice. I was sad to learn of his passing. God bless him and his family. My deepest condolences.
