Obituary of Sue Sanford Ball

Sue was preceded in death by Loren Glade Anderson, sister Denece Sanford Ray, daughter Denece Sanford Crozier, son Steven Glade Anderson, and her parents Hazel Dale Lawson and Herbert Orren (H.O.) Sanford. She is survived by her husband Joseph M. Ball, daughters, Ellis Sanford (Ronald James) Bigelow, Sanford Alexandra (Sas) Stark and Lynda (John Fredrick) Immel; grandchildren Lauren Bigelow, Lindsey Fritz, John Immel, Sarah Jane Fielding, Jeffrey Glade Immel, Jennifer Griffin; and great-grandchildren Lillian Fritz, Genevieve Fritz, John Immel, Sofia Immel, Jackson Immel, Selena Immel, Matthew Fielding, Lyla Fielding, Hannah Fielding, Cameron Immel, Shea Immel, Miller Glade Immel, Emily Griffin, Haley Griffin, and Wyatt Griffin. Sue was born in Salt Lake City Utah in 1932. She spent her childhood growing up and playing with her rambunctious Morris cousins, her dog Jill and her horse. Sue's early education took her to Katherine Branson School (KBS) for girls in Northern California, close to her sister Denece who lived in San Francisco. Returning to Salt Lake City after graduation, Sue attended the University of Utah, and became involved in the Sanford family business established by her father, Western Dental Supply Co. Sue's early family life in Salt Lake City included her marriage to William Earl and the birth of daughters Denece and Ellis, her marriage to Norman Paul Stark and the birth of daughter Sanford Alexandra (Sas). Her marriage to Loren Glade Anderson of Provo, brought together her three girls with Glade's son Steven Glade and daughter Lynda. Many happy and love filled years were spent in Provo surrounded by friends, family and the majestic Wasatch mountains. Late in life, while Sue was traveling, she met Joseph M. Ball. The two married and joined their extensive families in a snowy New Years Day ceremony in Orchard Park NY where the couple settled, first in the Bridal Path community and finally at Fox Run of Orchard Park. To know Sue was to love her. Sue was a singularly vivacious personality, making friends instantly with anyone she met. Sue loved parties, and was an extraordinary hostess to people from all walks of life. She never forgot a name and used that unique ability to make a world of friends and allies. Sue's artistic talents found their most creative expression in the beautiful award-winning quilts she designed and hand-stitched. Her mastery of color and composition came together with her unique flare in wondrous quilts, wall-hangings and articles of clothing. Quilting for Sue became a passion as well as her community. Interest in family history and a genealogical exploration of her family tree led Sue to join the Wasatch Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed camaraderie and shared purpose with the group and later advanced to leadership roles at both the local and national levels of the DAR organization. Sue's community at Fox Run in Orchard Park NY gave her much joy and laughter in her later years. She is remembered fondly for her scooter-based Bocci Ball antics both indoors and out. Despite her failing health in recent years, Sue always delighted those around her with wit, sparkle and her love-filled smile. A Memorial will be held in Utah at a later date.
