Meyer – Karin (nee Nelson) It is with great sadness, but confident joy, that the family of Karin Nelson Meyer announces her passing on June 30, 2018. She died peacefully at Buffalo General Hospital surrounded by her family after battling cancer. The daughter of Dr. James and Janet Mae Nelson, Karin was born in Rochester, MN, and grew up in Schenectady, NY with her sister Kirsten and brother Kevin. Karin enjoyed spending summers at her family's home on Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains. Karin graduated with a B.A. in Modern Languages from Wheaton College (IL) in 1983, and received her M.A. in Spanish Literature in 1985 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. While teaching high school Spanish in Chicago, Karin met Jeffrey Scott Meyer, who she married in Glens Falls, NY in 1988. Jeff and Karin moved to Buffalo, where their family expanded with the arrival of three sons: Benjamin (1990), Seth (1995), and Luke (1997). Karin's passion for education led her to teach Spanish courses at Canisius College, Daemen College, and D'Youville College. She was also a founding member of the Board of Advisors for Teach for America Buffalo. Karin lived a faith-filled life in dependence on her savior Jesus Christ and served faithfully at the Wesleyan Church of Hamburg. She enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, reading fine literature, and watching her Buffalo Bills and her children compete in sports. She was also an avid traveler throughout the world, with both her family and friends, especially to her haven in Arizona. Karin was predeceased by her parents, and is survived by her beloved husband Jeff of 29 years, her sister Kirsten, her brother Kevin, her three sons, her first grandchild due to be born in September, four nephews, and one niece. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5th from 7-9PM and Friday, July 6th from 4-8PM at FE Brown Sons Funeral Home, 6575 E. Quaker St., Orchard Park, NY 14127. Funeral will be on Saturday, July 7th at 11AM at the Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, 4999 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075.
