"Holmesie" was my best friend for many, many years. We shared so many adventures as kids including trips to King Ferry, Brûlé, Loon Lake, Brentwood Camp and all around Erie County. Ours was just part of the strong friendships between the Stilwells and Holmeses. This started with our older brothers, Dick Holmes and John Stilwell and carried through with the equally solid friendships between our parents Gerry and Cob Holmes and Andy and Charlotte Stilwell. Holmesie and I had so much fun together and often were the first ones to jump in the lake or the pool, whether it was in the middle of the day or after midnight in Canada. In 1968, we both jumped into our Camero convertibles and took off for Colorado together. Little did we know that our first lodging would be in a rooming house in downtown Denver where we shared a bathroom on the second floor with fellow lodgers, some of whom our parents would have not liked to have known. That didn't bother us as we were full of excitement to be in the Rocky Mountains. We had so much fun learning about Colorado and the west and sharing so many adventures and friends. Seven years later Holmesie was my maid of honor when I married Rich Himes. The following year she was one of my first visitors in the hospital after my daughter Beth Charlotte was born.
I am sadden by her passing, but know she is in a much better place now where her feistiness, humor, creativity and joy will be in full glory. Our group of OP Mavens is not the same without you, my friend. I miss you so much and treasure my memories of all the good times we shared.
Rest in Peace my dear friend.

This is sad news for me to hear today. Susie was my mentor and my teaching partner in the HG/T program in the Denver Public Schools for 6 years at Columbine Elementary. It was wonderful to be able to get up and go to work with her every day. What a joy she was to her students and to those of us that got to work with her.

Susie was by my side, as she so often was, when we spread my brother's in Blue River, in the Colorado Rockies...2001

Susie was the first person I met when I started my first teaching job in Colorado. She remained a dear friend and confidante ever since. There are so many wonderful memories of our time together - A week on the Colorado Plains with food and tents blowing away in the middle of the night, the Golden Girls trip to Arizona, spring break at Padre Island, the Cave of the Winds mud tour, her wonderful poppyseed cake....I'll miss you my dear girl.

My first Colorado camping trip was with Susie in 1972. She pulled up in her convertible Camaro in pigtails with Perry, her dog. Twenty years later, we packed the car and drove to Lake McConaughy on the North Platte for a camping trip on the beach, where a tornado blew our tent down during the night!
