Obituary of Jeanne M. Sackerson

Please share a memory of Jeanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SACKERSON - Jeanne M. Died October 17, 2019, three days shy of her 98th birthday. Widow of George R.; dear mother of Wende Lyman (late Patrick Hanly), Geoffrey (late Georgette), Charles (Margaret Karow), Mark (Annie), and caring guardian of the late Westley Mitchell; also survived by three grandsons, two step-granddaughters and many loving nieces and nephews. Jeanne was born October 20, 1921 in Evanston, IL and grew up in nearby Winnetka. Upon graduating from Bennett College, she went to work as a "paste-up girl" for a Chicago ad agency. When World War II broke out, she volunteered with the American Red Cross and proudly drove their ambulances throughout Chicagoland. Jeanne and George met in Champaign-Urbana, IL and after marrying in 1945, moved to Buffalo where they acquired treasured friendships and memories. From the early 50's, they lived in Orchard Park and summered with life-long friends in Honey Harbour, Ontario. A stay-at-home mom in name only, Jeanne loved adventures, taking her young children on cross-country road trips, volunteering for many years at the Buffalo Museum of Science and opening an art gallery in Orchard Park. Her active mind was full of insatiable curiosity and keen observations, characterized by good humor and an artistic sensibility. She was herself a fine artist who loved the cultural and aesthetic things in life, especially Buffalo's galleries, architecture, and history. She was also devoted to Saint Mark's Episcopal Church and sang in the choir for many years. Age did not diminish her spunky spirit (or love of chocolate) and, in later years, it actually flourished under the compassionate care of the wonderful people at Fox Run, to whom the family is eternally grateful. A Memorial Service will be planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Buffalo Museum of Science.
