I just learned of Joe's death. I am so so sorry to learn of it. Now I understand why I have not received an e-mail from him for a while. I will always remember Joe for the beautiful and loving message that he sent to us upon the death of our daughter Leonda just a few months before his own death. And we will always remember and cherish the visit we had with the family (Doreen was my cousin) several years ago when traveled up there to visit them. Our condolences go out to the entire family.

I am so sorry for your loss!! My mother was a dear friend of Doreen (they worked in the Nativity school library together). Your Dad and Mom were so wonderful to me after I lost my Mom and Dad. I went to school with Philip, and my daughter is friends with Pat and his wife Carrie. Your family will be in my prayers!!

Joe Murphy was the most sincere and devout man I have ever known. Joe and I worked together at Nativity for the youth of the parish to help deepen their dedication to God, and no better example of this dedication to God existed than Joe himself. I always considered it a blessing to be in Joe’s presence.
Along with that, Joe probably cooked more wonderful pancakes for the youth group’s fund raising breakfasts and for the Boy Scout Sunday breakfasts than anyone could imagine. He was truly a man for others- George Chernowski

Our Grandmother, Eunice (Murphy/McGurk) Demerly, was Peter Murphy's sister (Joe's Dad). We all have fond memories of the gatherings we would have with the "Murphy Clan".
Please accept our sincere condolences to you and your loved ones.

(((HUGS))) and prayers, Philip....I heard about your sweet father...me and my sister used to own a Pro-Life store in Lackawanna, next to a store owned by real witches who used to superglue newspapers all over our store windows because we had fetal models and photos in those windows. When your dad would drive by and see the newspapers on there, he would stop and use tinfoil to scrape off the papers so people could see our pro-life info. What a dear sweet man, who is undoubtedly in Heaven with your sweet mama now.

Joe Murphy was one of the most humble and hard-working people I have ever seen in action. Everyone at St Luke’s Mission of Mercy knew him and loved him and could count on him to fix anything. My condolences to his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is a comfort to imagine the welcome he received at the Gates of Heaven from the Lord and all the angels and saints and especially from his wonderful wife and the many poor whom he assisted over the years. I regret that I will be out of town for Joe’s wake and funeral Mass, but I will be praying for him and his family and all those who will miss him. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.

We met Doreen and Joe two and a half years ago, when we moved to the area and my husband, Ulises, joined the Knights. We saw them every Sunday at church, always so nice, kind, humble and faithful. Always making us feel good. I have never met a couple like them. Doreen and Joe are saints. Both are definitively one of the best couples I’ve ever met, best human beings I’ve ever met, best Catholics I’ve ever met. Huge example for us. Joe was an amazing friend, always living and sharing his faith with everyone. We are so blessed of having him in our lives. Thank you, Joe for such a huge impact you made on us! We must now lead by your example. Thank you for everything you did for the church, your friends and for the whole world!! People like you, make a difference and alway stay in our hearts. Thank you, Joe!!
