I consider myself truly lucky to have been placed with Pat for work-study back in my freshmen year at D'Youville College ('06). She taught me a lot about respect and showed me that friendship knows no age difference. Her interest in catching up every couple months even after a graduated, meant so much to me. I will forever cherish this photo. Rest in peace Pat. You have left an impression on me that will last forever.

I first met Jim and Pat Van Dyke when I was 12 or 13 years old. They were expecting Peter and had just moved into the house behind our’s in Orchard Park. They knew one of my mother’s bridge partners and she had recommended me as a babysitter. I was both thrilled and probably a little scared at the same time. I sensed the importance of their trust and looked forward to each opportunity they gave me.
Pat and Jim were a true team and knew the value of time together and I was there regularly when they went out to dinner, shopped or were off to Canisius College were Jim worked in the athletic dept. and Pat took classes for yet another degree. Pat was a great mom even though she had the example of her own mom for a brief eight years. Pat was firm, calm and caring as I recall. She was always learning and adapting to changes, challenges, joys and at times, I am sure, disappointments. She took life in stride and I learned a great deal from both of them.
To care for their growing family as I did gave me immense joy and great example in preparing for my own family. Pat may have thought she lived an ordinary life but in reality she did it in an extraordinary way.

My heart aches at this loss. Pat was a wonderful colleague with the gift of drawing generosity out of those she came in contact with—maybe because she was generous herself.
If you wanted a job done, you gave it to her. She finished what she started, and did it well and with conviction.
I was fortunate to know her.

Pat exemplified the best of what a well educated woman should be. She knew how to balance family and career, pursue her own interests, take amble time mentoring others, and be a leader with strong team skills. I will always be grateful for her friendship and guidance over the years. Others I am sure feel the same.

I have so many wonderful memories of your mom (and sister). She was an inspiration and guide in everything she did. She set the bar high as an exemplar of class, dignity, selflessness, hard work, discipline, commitment and education. I appreciated her friendship and meeting your family. She made a difference and will be missed. Heaven gained a new angel

Mrs. Van Dyke ALWAYS had a friendly, knowing smile for me; From my earliest days coming to pick up Marjorie for school, joining Mr. Van Dyke and Marjorie at the Canisius College basketball games to the more recent times of my visits to Orchard Park. As life would have it, difficult times came my way and Mrs. Van Dyke was again there for me. These were at my Dad and brother Tom's funerals. Just seeing Mrs. Van Dyke there gave me great comfort. Blessings to all the Van Dykes as you keep her in your hearts.
