Obituary of Florence Janet Schram

Florence Janet Pratt Schram (Orchard Park/Hamilton, NY) Janet (as she was known) age 95 died August 5, 2019 at the home of her daughter, Dorothy Migonis, in Hamilton, NY. She was born October 30, 1923, daughter of the late Winfred and Florence (Eastman) Pratt in Auburn New York. After growing up in the Finger Lakes area, Janet graduated from Canisteo Central in 1940. Upon graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Cortland State College in 1945, she started teaching in Orchard Park Central in September 1945. There she met and married John J. Schram on June 28, 1947. With the birth of her first son, Janet became a stay at home mother until after her youngest son was in 4th grade. While teaching PE in the Lakeshore school district, she pursued a Master's Degree in counseling from the University of Buffalo. She became a high school counselor first at Bishop Neuman then at Timon for 25 years retiring in June of 1988. Her husband of 41 years, John died in December of 1988. Janet loved gardening and had been a member of the Orchard Park Garden Club as well as their bridge group. She had been a member of the Orchard Park Historical Society and the Abigail Fillmore chapter of the DAR. While in her 70's, Janet traveled through out the world, enjoying the sites and people she met along the way. She was predeceased by her husband, 2 sisters: Mary Lester and Dorothy Pratt, 3 brothers: Justin Pratt, Win Pratt and Belden Pratt. Surviving are her sister Beatrice Way and her children: John (Lucy) Schram, Dorothy (Greg) Migonis, Eleanor (Chuck) Lathan and Doug (Lisa) Schram, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. There will be a Memorial for Janet on August 31 at 11 am at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church in Orchard Park, NY. Prior to the ceremony, there will be a visitation time from 10 to 11am.
